During Lockdown, demand for allotments has gone up 500%, as reported by more than 40 councils contacted by the National Allotment Society – but many applicants have had to join long waiting lists in some areas.  Britain has 1.9 million allotments.  National Allotment Week is 10-16 August – further info at bit.ly/allotments-week
